This year’s Grocontinental Relay, organised by Whitchurch Whippets and to be held at Alderford Lake next Thursday 12th July, is set to be another sell-out.

The seventh event which has become a firm fixture in the Whitchurch calendar has attracted 120 teams this year. Teams of three relay runners each cover a leg of two miles around the picturesque lake.

Whitchurch Whippets believe the continuing success of the community event is down to its inclusive nature with runners coming from established club runners to families, groups of friends and colleagues from local businesses. Club Chairman, John Dillon, explained that the club has created a special and unique event that resonates with both experienced and novice runners:

“The Relay was very much a winner from year one and continues to grow in popularity. We think it’s a combination of a great venue in Alderford Lake which provides the perfect backdrop for a summer’s evening, professional organisation and mostly that teams of all abilities run in the same race.  We are very grateful to Grocontinental for their continuing sponsorship.

“There is an excellent community spirit at the event and we get massive support from local people who come along to cheer on the teams.”

John Dillon visited Grocontinental to receive this year’s sponsorship cheque presented by staff members Robert Ellis and Dionne Loftus who will be taking part in the Relay.
