The Grocontinental Relay at Dearnford Lake is already a sell-out with more than 120 teams signed up for the evening event on Thursday 14th July.
Organised by local running club, Whitchurch Whippets, the off-road relay has already reached its entry limit.
This year will be the fifth running of the relay and the third year of Grocontinental’s sponsorship. The event has grown dramatically, with 39 teams entered in 2012 and 116 in 2015. The community relay involves three legs of two miles around Dearnford Lake, with teams of three runners coming from athletics clubs, families, friends and local businesses.
This year’s race will see eight teams taking part from Grocontinental. Linda Grocott, Grocontinental’s Managing Director, said: “The number of teams preparing to have a go from the company reflects the enthusiasm we all feel for supporting local, community events. It’s great to see people of all ages and abilities taking part and, in an Olympic year, this is the most important aspect of the night.
“It’s all great fun and there is always a wonderful atmosphere. Credit goes to Whitchurch Whippets, who organise everything so well.”
The Grocontinental Relay also includes a separate event for more established runners and running clubs. There will be free parking and the Dearnford Lake café will be open for food and drinks on the evening.
Further details on the event and the waiting list for entries are on the Whitchurch Whippets’ website at www.whitchurchwhippets.co.uk.
