An event held for North Shropshire fishing enthusiasts which featured an appearance by carp fishing expert, writer and broadcaster, Adam Penning, has helped to raise £1,615 for the Severn Hospice.
Organised by Rob Brassington, who lives in Whitchurch and works in our Operations Team, the event was held at The Raven Hotel at Prees Heath and was attended by 150 people. It is the third fishing event organised by Rob who is a member of Wem Angling Club.
Adam Penning entertained guests with a lively presentation which included a question and answer session. The money for Severn Hospice was raised from a raffle which featured a host of prizes donated by local businesses and fishing suppliers.
Speaking about the event, Rob Brassington said:
“We really couldn’t have had a more impressive speaker than Adam. He is passionate about carp fishing and had so many stories and anecdotes which the audience really enjoyed. His presentation lasted over three hours and could have probably carried on for a couple more!
“Fishing is a huge sport in our area and the night was a complete sell-out. We even had a waiting list for tickets. I was staggered by the amount of money we raised from the raffle and I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who supported our fundraising by donating superb prizes for the raffle.
“It is hard to imagine topping the success of this year’s event but I will definitely be giving it a good go for our fourth event.”
