Grocontinental provides "lifeline" funding to Queensway playing fields

Grocontinental has donated £6,000 to the Queensway Playing Fields Association in Whitchurch. The cash injection will guarantee that the park remains open for local residents over the next three years and will be specifically used to fund essential running costs such as maintenance of equipment and insurance.

Surrounded by one of the town’s largest residential areas, the playing fields cover two acres of mature parkland and feature a playground, football pitch, woodland and a fishing lake.

The latest funding provided by Grocontinental follows a donation of £4,000 made by the company in 2014 to support a renovation programme at the playing fields which included refurbishment of play equipment and the provision of timber to create 16 double fishing pegs around the park’s lake.

Linda Grocott, Managing Director of Grocontinental, joined committee members at the registered charity’s AGM to present the £6,000 cheque.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the Association, Chairman Rob Hewson, said:

“The donation from Grocontinental has secured the future of our park for the next three years. It is literally a lifeline for us and will cover some of the essential costs we need to meet each year to ensure that our facilities can be enjoyed by local people.

Speaking about the company’s donation, Linda Grocott said:

“Queensway Playing Fields offer a really unique and stunning rural environment for local people to enjoy, whatever their age.  The committee members work tirelessly to keep the playing fields going and to constantly make improvements.  It is a thriving community scheme which offers so much.
