Grocontinental is the largest employer in the market town of Whitchurch in north Shropshire.  We are greatly committed to and conscious of our responsibility to the local community.

With 350 staff, 75% of total employees live within 15 miles of the company’s headquarters so support is concentrated in the local area.

Sponsorship and charity support includes:

  • Educational sponsorship programme with the local secondary school, Sir John Talbot’s Technology College.  Managing Director Linda Grocott is also a Governor of the school.
  • Sponsorship of the local rugby club, Whitchurch RFC, for the last eleven years.
  • Six-year funding package for Age UK’s local office
  • Funding for renovation programme at Queensway Playing Fields, Whitchurch three-year sponsorship funding from 2016
  • Regular donations to Severn Hospice and Whitchurch Community Hospital
  • Three-year sponsorship programme of Whitchurch Whippets’ running club’s annual community relay.

Grocontinental also has a strong commitment to forming partnerships with the Shropshire business community. Decisions to use suppliers are often made on the basis of supportive relationships rather than on securing best price. Fuel, for example, is purchased from a Whitchurch-based supplier.

The majority of our services including air conditioning and refrigeration, storage pallets, catering and training requirements are all purchased from Shropshire businesses.

For our construction programmes, the services of local sub-contractors for ground works, concrete and electrical services are all sourced locally.
