Steve leads and manages the warehousing, planning and distribution functions at Grocontinental.
Working at the very heart of our operation, Steve oversees control and improvements in operational performance, service delivery, financial management, team management and quality.
His brief also includes ensuring meticulous advance planning to ensure people and capital investments are in place to meet customer needs and growth targets; and developing solutions to deliver premium and cost-effective service.
Steve’s career at Grocontinental started at the tender age of 13 when he worked during school holidays and weekends deboxing cheese, packing yoghurts and cleaning cheese.
Following his studies, Steve worked in our packing hall sorting fruit and veg’ to save money for a year-long trip, mainly around Australia. On his return, he re-joined the company on a full-time basis with a plan to save money for further travel. However, 10 years’ later, Steve is still with us!
During his time with the company, Steve has gained a valuable and rounded experience across the business holding the positions of Warehouse Stock Controller, Customer Relations Manager and Warehouse Planning Manager.
He now plays a key role within the leadership team as Head of Operations and has recently completed the Institute of Leadership and Management Diploma.
A sport fanatic, Steve has recently made the transition from playing football, cricket and mountain biking to bowls, golf and spending time in the gym.
He is a keen cyclist and a few years’ ago completed the demanding Land’s End to John O’Groats trip for charity. Over the last year, Steve has also taken up running and has recently completed his first half marathon. He now has a marathon in his sights.
Tottenham Hotspur fan Steve (he is expecting great things of his team in the next few seasons!) lives with his wife Michelle in Chester. He says that his newest hobby is cooking and he enjoys watching films as long as they feature Will Ferrell.
