Key responsibilities

Gemma and her team look after the interests of the 360 great people who work at Grocontinental. Our headcount is continually growing and Gemma oversees our HR strategy of continuously developing a highly-motivated and engaged workforce.

On a day-to-day basis, Gemma also directs the advice, guidance and support provided by her Department across all levels of the business; and the promotion of excellence in employee relations.

She is also responsible for driving best possible HR practice throughout the company, as well as providing specialist legislative, procedural and policy advice to managers and employees.

Career background

After graduating with a degree in Criminology and Management Studies from Manchester Metropolitan University, Gemma spent a year with a Manchester-based law firm working as a Claims Handler.

Gemma returned home to Shropshire in 2012 when she joined us as HR Administrator and quickly made a positive impact. Following completion of formal HR studies in 2014, Gemma was appointed to the role of HR Advisor and progressed to the role of Senior HR Advisor in June 2015.  Following completion of further studies in 2016, Gemma was promoted to the position of HR Manager in January 2017.

Away from the office

In her spare time, Gemma enjoys spending time with family and friends, travelling and seeing new places.

Although she is not overly keen on heights, Gemma has promised herself that she will complete a freefall skydive by the time she is 30. She still has a few years to prepare for the big day!
